Brush 551 is a 2009 model Ford F-550 4x4. It's primary responsibility is to respond to grass and brush fires and is our first out apparatus on all medical emergencies. It carries a full supply of medical equipment including oxygen, airway supplies, bandaging supplies, backboard, and an AED (Automatic Defibrillator). Brush 551 also carries wildland firefighting equipment including hose and hand tools. The brush truck features an on board water tank holding 250 gallons of water. It also carries a Class A Foam system.
The pump on Brush 551 is an 18-hp pump rated at 200 gallons per minute. It is capable of providing more pressure and volume than the older pump we replaced. It also operates similar to the pump on Brush 552 for consistency. An Elkhart Sidewinder Monitor Nozzle was also fitted to Brush 551's bumper. It is remotely controlled from inside the cab using a joystick and easily allows water to flow on the fire while the vehicle is moving. DOVFD purchased a new Lifepac 1000 AED for this first out medical squad and a chain saw for clearing trees from roads.
